Marius pursued his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Biomedical Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe. In his Master’s thesis, he investigated the use of 3D segmentation of OCT data to improve visibility and recognition of anatomical structures and surgical tools during cataract surgery.
As a PhD student at IKIM, his research centers on the application of robotic arms for surgical tasks. The goal is to advance the development of autonomous and semi-autonomous robotic assistance systems that improve surgical precision, efficiency, and safety.
In addition, he contributes to the “IKIAWu” project, where he develops AI-driven multimodal tools to support nursing staff in the classification and segmentation of various wound types. By combining image analysis with contextual clinical data, these systems aim to facilitate standardized wound documentation and support clinical decision-making in everyday care.
