Im Zentrum von Jens’ Forschung steht die Anwendung selbstüberwachter und schwach überwachter Lernverfahren, um klinisch relevante Muster in großen, komplexen Daten zu erkennen, sowie die Integration multimodaler Datenquellen zur Verbesserung der Entscheidungsfindung am Behandlungsort. Er studierte Medizin in Heidelberg und Bioinformatik in Hamburg, wo er 2012 in Informatik promovierte. Nach Stationen am Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg und am Deutschen Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) erwarb er die Facharztanerkennung in Radiologie, die Habilitation (venia legendi) und die Zusatzweiterbildung Medizinische Informatik.
